Our Story
A skin cancer diagnosis changed everything.
It led us to look closer at the labels of the sunscreens our family was using. What we found in those ingredients pushed us to do better. With 35 years of working with herbs behind us, we decided to make our own.
We started Mālama ʻOhana as an apothecary, crafting herbal tinctures and skincare. We taught local keiki how to harvest plants like ʻōlena and turn them into medicine. We loved teaching so much that we shifted our focus to wellness, helping families learn how to care for one another with herbs.
Our family inspires us to keep going. We want to pass something down to our children that reflects who they are.

Our Difference
We make skincare from an herbal background, not a chemical one. Thirty five years of herbalism has shaped every recipe to be wholesome, simple, and rooted in the land.
Our logo is a kalo (taro) plant. In Hawaiian culture, kalo is sacred. It is Hāloa, the elder brother of the Hawaiian people, born from the union of Wākea and Hoʻohōkūkalani. Kalo represents the foundation of life, the connection between people and ʻāina, and the responsibility of each generation to nourish the next. It is why we do what we do.

Group & Corporate Experiences
Custom Essential Oils Experience
A hands on plant medicine experience for resort guests, corporate groups, and private events on Maui. Guests learn the plants, then blend and take home something they made themselves.
A traditional Hawaiian greeting opens the session, followed by an introduction to the plant traditions our formulas are built on.
An introduction to the endemic and cultivated plants behind our formulas, what they are traditionally used for, and how families still use them today.
Each guest creates two custom essential oil rollerballs to take home, guided through scent families and blending ratios.
